Internet Case Study

 Summary

On behalf of our client, a semiconductor manufacturer, we monitored and managed website information released from their head office in the USA. We proposed a translation priority sequence, making the client very thankful because we greatly reduced its workload for budget allocation.

 Challenges

  • Information released on the website from the US head office is not understood in Japan
  • The client wanted to quickly release the latest information in Japan, but was unable to do so

 Case Study

A major semiconductor manufacturer in the USA releases the latest information for its developers on its English-language website. All the different development departments in the USA update this information as they see fit and in an uncoordinated fashion. As such, it is not easy for the Japanese office to ascertain how or where the information has changed and it takes an extremely long time to decide which areas should be translated into Japanese.

When TOIN heard of these problems, we constructed a web server that was the same as the one used by the client and created our own unique tool for recognizing differences, enabling us to identify the changed locations even in a website with over 10,000 pages. We showed these differences to the client every week and also proposed a sequence of priority for translation. TOIN could suggest a priority sequence because it had assigned to the project team a special IT member who could judge the relevant technology trends and market fluctuations.

This enabled the client to order translations in line with its budget and starting from the information with the highest priority, which could then be communicated to Japanese users.

Our success in this project led to the same client asking us to produce sales documents and exhibition materials. By accurately incorporating into other documents the latest information that we had learned from the website, we further enhanced customer satisfaction.
